It is the mission of the Division of Gastroenterology at UCI School of Medicine to be a world-class center for the study and treatment of digestive diseases.
Responsibilities:The incumbent performs gastroenterology clinical services in the Comprehensive Digestive Disease Center (CDDC) with major emphasis on patient care delivery. Conducts in-depth interviews with patient and/or family, constructs comprehensive medical histories, performs initial and periodic medical exams, evaluates patient behaviors, directly performs or orders diagnostic studies and interprets finished results, and develops and implements long-and short-range treatment plans. The physician assistant will perform clinical assessments and care management services that include construction and interpretation of histories and physical exams. The PA will also be expected to participate in daily rounds to observe and record pertinent progress of patients. Updating and summarizing charts, changing orders when appropriate, and notifying the responsible physician(s) of changes in the patient’s condition are but a few of the PA’s daily routine. The PA will also counsel patients and families as to preventive care, medical problems, psychological problems and use of prescribed treatment and drugs. The PA will assist in operative and other procedures and participate in clinical investigations.
