Job Description

The South Milwaukee Municipal Band, sponsored by the South Milwaukee Recreation Department, is a year-round community band comprised of adults and high school-age volunteer musicians.

Job Responsibilities:

• Lead weekly band rehearsals – Tuesday evenings (about 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.)
• Select music appropriate to the diverse skill levels of the ensemble
• Rehearsal planning in order to maximize rehearsal time with the band
• Direct band concerts and performances – The band performs several times a year at city-sponsored programs, community events, and assisted living facilities. Performances may be on days other than Tuesday evenings.
• Assist in the recruitment of new members
• Assist the Board of Directors in making participation in the band a fun and positive experience for all members and prospective new members

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in conducting, directing ensembles, or music education
• Ability to work with volunteer musicians of all skill levels and backgrounds
• Ability to communicate in a positive and effective manner
• Energy, musical artistry, vision, and commitment
