Job Description

The Gateway School seeks an experienced Learning Specialist to assist the Director of Language and Literacy in overseeing the implementation of the Middle School reading and writing programs. Key responsibilities include coaching a team of 7-10 Middle School Head Teachers on their curriculum design and pedagogy, leading weekly guided planning and department meetings, observing classroom instruction, and providing timely feedback, as well as teaching a research writing class.

Key to the role is frequent progress monitoring, the administration of informal and formal assessments, and clear and frequent communication to classroom teachers, faculty, parents, and specialists in order to ensure effective, direct instruction of language, literacy, and critical thinking skills. The ideal candidate is an experienced educator with a strong desire to work in a collaborative environment, who has strong interpersonal skills, is dedicated to ongoing professional growth, and has a commitment to teaching students with language-based learning disabilities.

The Gateway School offers a competitive compensation package and a comprehensive professional development program. The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000.   • Master’s degree in Special Education or Speech and Language Pathology
  • Post-master’s degree in Reading/Literacy Specialist, IMSLEC Certification preferred
  • A minimum of five years of related experience, which includes experience implementing multisensory, explicit instruction
  • Training in and experience teaching using an Orton-Gillingham based reading program and The Hochman Method
  • Experience with instructional coaching
  • Experience administering and interpreting educational assessments
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Independent school experience preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to, and experience with, diversity, equity, and/or inclusion work, which includes auditing and expanding curriculum to support our students' lived experiences
