THE POSITION

The Department of Environmental Protection is actively looking to hire a Licensed Professional Geologist for a position based in Montgomery County. This role involves engaging in professional hydrogeology work, which encompasses a range of responsibilities such as studying, mapping, conserving, utilizing, safeguarding, and remediating hydrogeologic resources. The position is situated within the Environmental Cleanup Program, specifically in the Corrective Actions Section of the Southeast Regional Office. This is a technical role that demands expertise in hydrogeology, making it an exciting opportunity for qualified candidates to contribute to vital environmental protection efforts. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be expected to apply standard geological principles while effectively interpreting various materials, including maps, aerial photographs, remote sensing images, and existing scientific literature. The role necessitates traveling to multiple sites to conduct studies and investigations that involve the collection, organization, evaluation, and interpretation of hydrogeologic data. You will also be tasked with investigating incidents of groundwater contamination to identify the sources and extent of pollution. Furthermore, you will develop or review proposed remediation strategies aimed at mitigating the impacts of groundwater pollution and restoring water quality to acceptable standards. As part of your responsibilities, you will promote and oversee site remediation efforts across a five-county region, operating under the Environmental Cleanup Program. This may include conducting assessments and cleanups in accordance with the Land Recycling Program, the Hazardous Sites Cleanup Program, and the Storage Tank and Spill Prevention Program.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Norristown.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,678.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires the possession of an active license as a professional geologist issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
