Job Description

We are an upscale sushi bar and restaurant located in the heart of Calabasas, dedicated to providing an exceptional dining experience that blends traditional Japanese craftsmanship with contemporary culinary innovation. Our team values creativity, precision, and passion for food, and we’re looking for a talented Head Kitchen Chef to lead our back-of-house operations.

Position Overview:
The Head Kitchen Chef will oversee all kitchen operations, including menu development, staff management, and quality control. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced chef with a strong background in Japanese cuisine—particularly sushi and modern Japanese dishes—to take the lead in a fast-paced, high-end environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the kitchen team to ensure excellence in food preparation, presentation, and service.

  • Develop and refine menus that highlight traditional and contemporary Japanese flavors.

  • Maintain the highest standards of food quality, consistency, and safety.

  • Oversee ordering, inventory, and kitchen cost management.

  • Train and mentor kitchen staff, fostering a culture of respect, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate with ownership and management to create seasonal specials and innovative culinary experiences.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional kitchen experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.

  • Proven expertise in Japanese cuisine and sushi preparation.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to thrive under pressure in a high-volume, upscale environment.

  • Current Food Handler’s Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
