Job Description
Healthcare Staffing Professionals has an immediate need for a Senior Environmental Specialist to support the Land Use Program. In this roll, the Senior Environmental Specialist will work in the Land Use Program reviewing plans for the installation or repair of Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS), Conventional and Non-Conventional types for residential, commercial, and industrial projects, to include consultation, site evaluation, and review of geology reports including percolation tests, soil profiles, and groundwater data for determination of approval.
The positions will start immediately upon acceptance and employment clearance and are initially funded through 3/26/26, with the good chance of extension.
Pay Rate: $52.28/hr working 40 hours a week
Office work based in Baldwin Park and field work conducting site visits

Key Duties Include: 1. Conducting site visits for setback verification.
2. Performing septic tank leak tests and final start-up inspections.
3. Reviewing septic system evaluation reports and determining the functionality of the entire system.
4. Reading and interpreting floor/site plans and topography.
5. Reviewing feasibility reports and determining the accuracy of the testing, calculations, and proposed septic systems, such as type of system (OWTS or NOWTS), leach lines, or seepage pits.
6. Understanding Los Angeles County OWTS Guidelines, LAMP, Title 11 Health and Safety, and Plumbing Codes.
7. Tracking projects and approval workflows.
8. Using GIS-NET3 for project assessments. We use GIS-NET and EPIC-LA to obtain related information about the property.
9. Entering data and tracking projects in the Environmental Health database.
10. Answering public inquiries on environmental health projects.
11. Handling counter coverage and assisting with applications.
12. Understanding inspection timelines and regulatory processes.
Requirements: - Two years' experience as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist for a health department.*
- *Certificate as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist issued by the California State Department of Health Services. Environmental Health Specialists II engaged in dairy and milk products inspection also must be Registered Dairy Inspectors by the Department of Food and Agriculture, State of California.
- A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out job-related essential functions.
