General Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in related field. Masters preferred. Five years' work experience in an educational environment dealing with event management, developing program goals, evaluating outcomes, budgeting/monitoring expenditures, marketing, promotions, or experience in a related field. Previous experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating campus-wide programming preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:
Implements strategic and impactful initiatives to enhance the overall student experience by developing and implementing programming that that both aids in the student journey and enables parents, and families to effectively contribute to their students' success, retention, and completion. Plans, organizes, and directs the day-to-day operations of a department with the oversight of the Director. Performs highly complex managerial work providing direction and guidance in strategic operations and planning in the Office of Student Experience & Retention.
Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):
Leads the development and execution of Student & Family Experience. Serves as a primary point of contact to address inquiries, provide information, and offer support. Responsible for the creation and implementation of experience roadmap/guides for each year of the student journey. Conducts surveys, focus groups, and other methods to gather feedback from students on their experiences and identify best practices, challenges and areas for improvement. Works with various departments across campus to coordinate initiatives that contribute to a positive student experience. Oversees campus-wide events related to student experience initiatives including Sophomore September and Halfway There Celebration. Tracks the effectiveness of student experience programs and adjusts as needed. Designs, plans, and executes parent and family focused programming (e.g., Parent & Family Weekend, Siblings Weekend, Information Sessions, Webinars, etc.). Leads the development and implementation of proactive parent and family relations communication plan by managing the Campus ESP web portal central hub for information, updates, and resources. Utilizes social media and a monthly newsletter for parent and family engagement. Responsible for recruiting and onboarding Parent & Family Advisory Council members. Oversees the Parent & Family Advisory Council to leverage their insights and contributions. Creates assessment tools to measure the effectiveness of Student & Family Experience programs annually. Responsible for the functional area's allocated budget. Establishes, builds, and maintains collaborative working relationships with other SHSU departments and offices, including Athletics, Auxiliary Services, Development, Facilities, New Student Orientation & Transition Programs, Residence Life, and the Lowman Student Center to execute annual events. Partners with the Office of Admissions to plan and execute new student send-off events. Collaborates with the Division of University Advancement to engage parents and families in philanthropic activities supporting Sam Houston State University. Works with Visitor Services and attends all Saturday@Sam and preview day events. Responsible for all marketing and communication plans. Serves as liaison to the Division of Integrated Marketing Communications. Remains current in national trends and benchmark best practices regarding college student transition. Builds and maintains relationships with families. Trains and supervises student workers assigned to Student & Family Experience. The role involves strategic planning, data-driven decision-making, and prepares and submits status reports to the Executive Director for Strategic Retention Initiatives. Performs other related duties as assigned.
